Spend a night under stars for homeless

-

STOCKPORT homeless charity The Wellspring is calling on volunteers to spend a night under the stars.

The Wellspring Sleepout 2017 will take place on Friday, July 14, in the grounds of St Mary’s on the Marketplace in the town centre between 7pm and 7.30am.

The charity says the event ‘does not intend to replicate homelessness but aims to raise awareness of homelessness in Stockport and the north west and raise funds for the charity, which is dependent on donations’.

Participants will get a hot meal at The Wellspring and take part in activities aimed at increasing awareness and knowledge of homelessness and the services available in Stockport, in a ‘fun and interactive way’.

The Wellspring is open 365 days a year and offers a range of services to those who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless.

These include health services, food and hygiene facilities, support with housing and drug and alcohol services.

People taking part are encouraged to raise money for the charity through sponsorship; £15 provides a homeless person with one hour of intensive support, £100 provides a meal for 150 homeless and disadvantaged people and £365 runs the project for a whole day.
