Down to business end of Knock Outs

IT’S getting hot in the Manchester and District Alliance Inter Club Knock Outs, the biggest in the country, as the competitio­n have now reached round two featuring the last 32 clubs.

Bramall Park’s men played for the Secretary’s Kettle in singles medal and it was won by Andy Buckels after a cpo on 68 with Mark Batley. Hot on their heels with 68 were Chris Bagnall, George Seed and Mark Robinson.

It also needed a cpo on 64 in the Midweek medal at Park with Paul Prior getting the nod ahead of Carl Dale as they finished four shots clear of Ben Harris and Chris Fensom.

Park’s ladies played a Gold Brooch medal and in division one Liz Waddell was a clear winner on 70 from Jackie Cookson 73 and Donna Macintosh 76.

In division two Jo Coutts was top of the shop with 73 from Brenda Foster 74 and division three hot shot was Gill Paget with 75.

Bramhall’s men played for the Vets Cup and in division one Austin McBride posted 69 to finish one ahead of Gaz Smith, Mark Newton, Chris Giles and Mark Clewley.

First past the post in division two was Steve Proffitt with 68 from Andrew Wilson 69.

Division three was led in by Malcolm McFarlane after a cpo on 68 with Stephen Sheard and division four featured another 68 from John Allanby.

Bramhall ladies played over two rounds of Stableford for the Challenge Bowl and the early pace was set by Sarah Brown with 40 points from Pat Marriott 39.

Round two honours went to Dianne Symmons with 39 points three more than Caroline McGeorge and Rosemarie Horton.

The Bowl was won by Sarah Brown with a total of 73 points taking her clear of Dianne Symmons 71 and Caroline McGeorge and Katie Marriott, both 70.

Hazel Grove’s men played for the Bancroft Trophy and David McGannity was out on his own with 39 points, three more than ●●Gill Dawson Michael Paxton with Alan Tunna and Michael Mason next in with 35.

Grove’s ladies were in medal mode and in division one Kathryn Wardle-Davies led in with 74 from jean Brain 77, Christine Jones 78 and Vivienne Hudson 80.

Lorraine Harrison topped division two with 69 from Pamela McGahan 71 and leading in division three was Stephanie Hall with 73.

Danny McCoy was the star of the Monthly Challenge at Houldswort­h as the one handicappe­r posted a massive 44 points to finish three clear of Anthony Atkins.

Houldswort­h ladies played for the ‘major’ Groves Plate and in a tight finish Christine Waterfield led in with 29 points, one more than Jackie Beverley and Louise Lanigan.

Marple’s men played for the Baguley Bowl and in division one Callum Breen was unstoppabl­e with 64, two less than Keith Nadin.

Division two saw Colin Hulme in charge with 65 from Barry Campbell 67 and John Mills 68.

A midweek Stableford at Marple was won by Robert Vaisey with 39 points ahead of Jonathan Vaisey 37 and the consistent Mike Field 36.

Marple ladies played for the Edith Parrott Salver and Gail Brady was the proud winner with 37 points, two more than Kay Weeks, Linda Rogers and Elaine Jones.

Reddish Vale ladies played a medal and it was taken by Denzell Hunt with 72 from Sheila Cowlard 73 and Linsy Warburton 75.

Reddish Vale seniors played round two of the Joey Jones Trophy and Peter McDermott posted 36 points to finish one clear of Colin Farrow and Mike Tarver.

It needed a cpo on 144 to see Ryan Bancroft to victory from Sutton with Tony Gregory and Chris Unsworth next in with 146.Disley Golf Club’s new Lady Captain Gill Dawson joined the club eight years ago soon after she had stated to play golf.Gill said: “I joined Disley because my neighbours took me for a game there and the ladies at Disley made me feel so welcome on that visit that although it was not the nearest club to my home in Macclesfie­ld it was where I decide that I wanted to play.“The course has marvellous views, the members are friendly and the food is excellent - what more could anyone want other than possibly good weather this summer!“I will be playing as often as possible in the summer – usually about four times a week - as well as enjoying my other hobbies of travel, eating out, cooking, reading and supporting Manchester City.“My chosen charity is the Alzheimers Society because they help the families of those affected and sponsor research into the disease and the bunker on the 17th hole has been designated as part of the fundraisin­g for the charity.”
