Sam’s new deal

-

SAM Minihan believes signing an improved deal at County represents his best chance of progressing his career in the game.

The 23-year-old attacking full-back made a great impression last season, having joined Jim Gannon’s side twelve months ago from Worcester City.

And this week the former Rochdale player penned a new two-year deal at Edgeley Park.

“My progression as a player is really important, and under Jim I progress and improve rapidly. I want to go as high as possible in the game, and I really believe County will do it this season. I’m no different to anyone else, I want to play as high as possible for as long as possible playing full-time football, and I believe that’s the direction County are heading in.”

“Jim has made it clear to everyone that that is his plan, and the plan for us as a team, so that suits me perfectly.

“I can’t wait to get started, I’m made up to sign the contract and stay with County; it’s a great club with a great set of fans and the lads are looking really good, so it’s a great place to be.”

Having brought in defender Dan Cowan and midfielder Sam Walker in the last week, Gannon said he’s delighted to have secured Minihan for a further two years.

“It’s great news for the club that Sam has agreed an extended two-year deal,” he said. “As manager, a lot of my work over the summer has been concentrating on the new recruits, but I’m keenly aware that we’re carrying forward from last season a very good group of players. Over two thirds of this season’s squad have been part of the team that reached 73 points, our highest points tally at his level.

“Sam was an important part of that team and was our Young Player of the Year. Whilst securing new recruits, I’m conscious of understanding the ambition of our current players and helping them achieve success in their careers here and in the wider game.”

Minihan has also further strengthened his County links by joining the coaching team in the Hatters’ Community Foundation.

Gannon said the twoyear deal is also a fitting tribute to Minihan’s contribution over the past season: “A two-year deal shows our recognition of his commitment to the club over the last season and also our belief that he will continue to serve the club very well for many years to come as we both develop and grow.”
