Woodley’s total too high for visitors

IT was a glorious day for cricket in the Intersport Monkhouse Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League, with runs a plenty on offer.

In Division 1, Woodley amassed 238-8 having been asked to bat by visiting Old Glossop, Harrison Webb scoring 40, D Oldland 71 Jamie Kay 56 and Conor Cranwell 41 as Mark Allen took 5-55. Old Glossop then slumped to 139 all out.

Mottram batted first as they hosted New Mills, going on to make 238-6, Stefan Fileding with 37, Jordan Irons 32 S Swann 38 and J Smith 44 not out.

New Mills were then all out for 84, Callum Firth hitting 49 as A Burke took 5-40 and Liam Wright 4-20.

In Division 2, Hazel Grove were asked to bat by visiting Birch Vale and were 248-5 at the end of their 45 overs, Rick Burke with a fluent 85, Mike Holtom 50 and first team debutant Cameron Forsythe an aggressive 42.

Despite a ferocious start from the Birch openers and especially John Bradshaw with 58, their chase fell away with Ian Halford taking 6-13 and Mike Holton three onehanded slip catches!

Compstall piled on the runs at home to Hollingwor­th as they hit 309-5, P Giannasi with 163 not out and David Bailey 79. Hollingwor­th fell to 54 all out, J Webb taking 5-33 and Dylan Heginbotha­m 4-14.

High Lane struggled to 57 all out as they hosted Whaley Bridge, Matt Slack taking 4-21 and Charlie Holden 3-1.

G Holden then finished unbeaten on 40 as Whaley lost just one wicket in their chase.

Offerton were all out for 91 batting first at home to Newton, M Stringer with 4-20, A Allcock 4-1 and J Cragg with 3 catches. Newton also struggled but 39 from M Stringer and 28 for A Grant helped them to 96-6, A Davies taking 3-24.

Division 3 Hazel Grove posted 172-9 batting first at Dove Holes, Joe Wilkinson with a patient 51 and Charlie Higson 48 as C Poulton took 3-24 and Dan Waterhouse 3-42. A Criychlow then hit 112 not out and R Hawkes 40 as Dove cruised to 173-3.

Hawk Green were all out for 175 at Newton, Justin Blackhurst with 52, Tom Littler 39 and Ben Littler 45 as M Pottage took 4-41 and T Pottage 4-32. In reply Brad Holme took 3-11 and George Ridings 3-16 as Newton were bowled out for 90.

Hayfield scored 148 all out at Broadbotto­m, J Noakes with 31 and M Richardson 37 as J Rowbotham scored 4-36 and M Greenhalgh 4-25. Nick Courtney (42) and J Bardsley (34) were then both unbeaten as Broadbotto­m closed on 149-4. Woodley took first knock at Old Glossop and were 174 all out with D Hotson making 96, as Ivan Twist took 4-14 and D lane 4-29. Lane then hit 38 but H Rippon took 3-24 and Jack O’Malley 4-15 as Old Glossop collapsed to 117 all out. New Mills posted 198-9 as they hosted Mottram, the visitors falling to 121 all out in reply.

Division 4 Birch Vale smashed 318-6 as they hosted Buxworth, Steve Burns with 138 and J Linksey 99. In reply Aaron Benstead hit 48 but Linskey took 5-36 and Burns 4-22 to cap fine all round performanc­es, the visitors all out for 110. Charleswor­th were all out for 114 batting first at home to Chapel, with the visitors chasing their target for the loss of five wickets.

High Lane were all out for just 117 at Whaley Bridge, F Ghous with 52 as A Gibson took 4-46 and Ed Kitchen 3-12. It proved enough as Whaley Bridge were bowled out for 69.

Hollingwor­th elected to bat at home to Compstall, Mike Hawkin taking 5-28 as they were restricted to 133 all out. Graham Parry then hit 46 and J Patel 31 not out at Compstall hit 137-6.

Hadfield forfeited their match against Offerton.
