BRAMHALL Golf Club’s internatio­nal star Bronte Law has graduated at the UCLA and a proud mum Morven and dad Tim with Bronte’s younger sister, Bella were there for her big day.

Bronte has graduated in Sociology, with a Minor in Psychology! All this as well as playing amazing golf throughout her time at U.C.L.A.

All at Bramhall GC sent their congratula­tions to Bronte and our their very best wishes for the future.

Bronte has also presented a Trophy in the form of a Cut Glass Vase to The Ladies Section which will be played for annually over 36 holes.

An 18 hole Medal Competitio­n followed the following week by an 18 Hole Stableford Competitio­n.

The first Bronte Law Trophy winner was Vicky Clewley and she was presented with the trophy by profession­al Richard Green and Lady Captain Frances Gell.

DISLEY’S men played a medal which was the fourth Shanghai qualifier and in division one club legend Phil Leadbetter showed his scratch class as he led in division one after winning a cpo on 68 with David Harrabin, one less than Steve Kewley.

Colin Nesbitt topped division two with 69 ahead of Michael Robinson 70 and Roy Bailey 71 and in division three Sandy Dunlop was out on his own with 67, two shots clear of Jim Hunt and Wilf Wragg.

Disley ladies played an EWGA medal for the Mildred Manning prize and in division one Gill Dawson was top of the shop with 69, six clear of Debbie Eyre and Gill Hunt.

Eleanor Cantello was first past the post in division two with 71 from Sandra Commins 73.

CHEADLE ladies were also in EWGA medal mode and it needed a cpo on 71 to see Sue Barker into top spot from Maire Eaton and Patsy O’Neil.

Cheadle Seniors played a qualifying medal and Jan Elliott topped division one with 64 from Peter Bitrwistle 66 and Jan Hornsby 68.

In division two David Everard won a cpo on 63 from Alan Harney.

It was a close contest as Cheadle’s men played a singles Stableford qualifier for the Treasurers Millenium Bowl with cricket legend Richard Battye winning a cpo on 40 points from Mark Gregory, one more than Mike Westbrook.

A singles Stableford for GATLEY’S men also needed a cpo on 36 points to see Chris Whitehead lead in from Alex Benner and Colin Miller.

Lady Captain’s Day for Gatley ladies had Roisin Andrew in cruise control with her nett 72 taking her six shots clear of Margaret Rowland and Mathilda Botman.

Kevin Moore was unstoppabl­e as Avro’s men played for the Club Championsh­ip.

He set the pace in round two after winning a cpo on 68 from Mark Durkin, Bryan Neil and Phil Normanton.

Kevin completed a double as he won the gross prize over 36 holes with 160 from Mark Durkin 161 and the nett prize and Mirlees Trophy with 142 from Mark Durkin 143 and Chris Robinson 144.

HEATON Moor’s men played a singles Stableford for the Victory Trophy and it was won by Paul Higgs with 44 points from Mark Hodgkinson 43 and club legend Ken Wardle 42.

Moor’s ladies were in medal mode and Lynn Guy led in with 73 and hot on her heels with 74 were Jacqueline Hall and Margaret Worrall.

A two division medal at NEW MILLS had Darren Cooper top of division one with 65 closely followed by Keane Hyde 66 and Jack Marshall 67.

John Samme was a clear winner in division two with his 62 taking him well clear of Gavin Shields 65 and Michael Leddy 67.

New Mills ladies played the fourth round of the Warren Cup and it was won by Alison Wright with 40 points from Alison Rudder 38 and Elizabeth Milne 37.

A singles Stableford for Mellor and Townscliff­e ladies was won by Ken Jones with 38 points from Alison Jackson 37 and Susan Hird 35.

M and T’s men were also in Stableford action with Simon Wallworth posting an impressive 42 points to finish three ahead of Mark Hanson and Jose Perez.

Steve Brown was unstoppabl­e in the fifth round of the Handicap Cup at ROMILEY with a superb 64 taking him four shots clear of John Dineen.

There was a tight finish to Romiley Lady Captain’s Day with just one shot separating the top four players.

Rebecca Byle won a cpo on 74 from Lynn Schofield and next in 75 were Bernadette Draper and Denise Booth.

BRAMALL Park provided an excellent stage as Cheshire entertaine­d their old rival Lancashire in the NORTHERN COUNTIES DAILY TELEGRAPH LEAGUE.

The points at stake mattered to both teams as Lancashire were looking for their first points of the season and the hosts needed a win to keep current leaders Yorkshire in their sights.

It was nip and tuck throughout the day of superb weather with Lancashire taking the morning foursomes by 3.5-2.5.

Winners for Cheshire were Lewis George (Delamere Forest) and Chris Chilton (High Legh Park) by one up and Jack Brooks (Didsbury) and Rhys Nevin-Wharton (Sandiway) by 3/2 with the last game out seeing Stockport duo David Peel and Sam Turner halving their match.

Cheshire got off to a flier in the afternoon singles as wins for Lewis George by 3/2 and Tom Dolan (Heswall) 5/4 put Cheshire ahead.

Lancashire hit back as Sean Doherty won 4/3 over Chris Chilton to level the match and it was still all square as Jon Beesley (Mere) halved with John Carroll (Huyton and Prescot). Rhys NevinWhart­on restored the Cheshire lead with a 2/1 win over Ciaran Doherty but the match swung back to Lancashire with big wins for Joe Brice (Ashton-under-Lyne) by 6/5 over Jack Brooks and Ian Kenwright (Haydock Park) by 7/5 over Sam Turner.

Dom Barnes (Caldy) restored parity for the hosts with a 3/1 win over Richie Blundell (Hillside) and the tie swung both ways with a two up win for Reece Cranfield (Wigan) over David Peel cancelled by Jacob Oakley (Bramhall) with a 6/5 win over Paul McFerran (Warrington).

Anthony Stirling (Formby) beat Cameron Massey (Northenden by 2/1 then the Cheshire iceman Michael Harrington (Prestbury) secured an honourable draw as he beat Mark Hyde (Southport and Ainsdale) 3/1 in a thrilling finish.

Credit to both teams for an excellent contest and to Bramall Park for being fine hosts..

Manchester and District Golf Club Captain’s took on local rivals Bolton and District at Ellesmere GC in a closely-fought contest.

Bolton emerges with a narrow 5.5-4.5 victory to claim the coveted Harken Trophy which was presented to Bolton Captain Glynn Evans by Manchester Vice Captain Tony Gregory of Stockport GC.

Both teams were made very welcome both on and off the course by Ellesmere GC Captain Peter Keown and both teams look forward to renewing acquaintan­ces and rivalries in 2018.

The final destinatio­n is in sight after the latest draw for round three in the top two MANCHESTER ALLIANCE INTER CLUB KNOCK OUTS for the Dunham Forest Trophy and the City Glass Men’s Foursomes, which are the biggest of their kind in the country.

In the Dunham Forest Trophy, which sees the club profession­al and the top six amateurs representi­ng their clubs in a competitio­n which had nearly 100 entries the holders Leigh are out.

They have dominated the competitio­n in recent years winning three times for a record number of five but they were beaten at home by Helsby who visit Pike Fold as they look to make the last eight.

The rest of the draw is: Blackburn v Leyland, Bolton Old Links v Lymm, Denton v Didsbury, Manchester v Crompton and Royton, Ringway v Ashton-under-Lyne, Whitefield v Harwood and Wigan v Reddish Vale.

In the City Glass Men’s Foursomes the draw is: Birchwood v Westhought­on, Bramall Park v Dukinfield, Didsbury v Macclesfie­ld, High Legh Park v Ellesmere, Houldswort­h v Alderley Edge; Leyland v Dunscar; Tytheringt­on v Crompton and Royton, Marriott Worsley Park v Hart Common.
