Volunteers needed for great spectacle of

- IAN BROWN COOPERATIVE SUPPORTERS GROUP

I SOUGHT out John Giles the Race Director and driving force behind the Supporters Cooperative’s flagship event the Hatters Half Marathon, a few days ago, hoping to find out how things were going ahead of race day on September 3.

It turns out that things, organisationally speaking, are going very well indeed, with the usual caveats of course, namely- the course needs a last minute tidy. Fingers are very much crossed for a fine day with a good proportion of the course on trails, and we are still looking for more marshals to help out on the day.

The Stockport County Supporters Co-operative have arranged a marshal briefing session for the half marathon. This will be held at the Bungalow (next to the Railway End) after the home game against Gainsborough Trinity on Sat 26th August at 5pm.

This briefing session is optional, but has always will provided a very useful overview of the course, actions to be taken in the event of injury, reporting retirements and also supplied answers to any questions volunteers may have. It is not essential to attend, as a marshal pack will be supplied by email in advance of race day, and the Section Marshal will provide a briefing on the day.

In this respect , John is looking for some extra marshals to help on Sunday, September 3, from about 8.30am ( race starts 9.30am) particularly on Northgate Road / Brinksway in Edgeley ,and also on Ford Lane / Boat Lane in Northenden.

Volunteers will receive a free ticket to Stockport County v North Ferriby, and we can also offer a place in next year’s race (subject to us receiving approvals).Anyone interested in joining Team Hatters Half should email johngiles20@hotmail.com

Entries for the Robinsons Brewery supported race, are going well with 280 signed up so far with just over a month to go to race day.

Numbers are boosted this year by the effort being made by Stockport
