New Mills sunk by Woodley
FOLLOWING overnight and early morning rain it was the bowlers licking their lips in the Intersport Monkhouse Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League, with many games starting late to allow pitches to dry.
In a 36 overs per side game in Division 1, Woodley batted first at home to New Mills and made 206-7, D Oldland with 35, Jamie Kay 69 and George Hill 42 as O Peatfield took 3-25 and S Kilner 4-43. Jamie Kay then took 5-41 as New Mills slumped to 120 all out.
In the Division 2 top of the table clash between Compstall and Whaley Bridge the home side posted 128-8 batting first in a 32 over per side game, Sam Messih with 31 as H Holden took 5-25. Matt Slack then hit 48 but he received little support as Whaley Bridge were all out for 94, Dylan Heginbotham taking 3-45.
Chapel were asked to bat by visiting High Lane and scored 159-8 in a game reduced to 80 overs, J Jackson with 78 as George Whitney took 3-25. J Hawting then took 3-14 and Nick Smith 5-23 as High Lane slumped to 78 all out.
Hazel Grove travelled to Charlesworth and were asked to bat in a 36 over per side game, going on to post 156-2 thanks to 68 from Nick Hayward. Charlesworth then saw S Leech hit an aggressive 50 and D Smith an equally attacking 48 but Mark Clayton took 3-19 as Charlesworth fell to 146 all out.
Division 3 Woodley batted first in a 60 over game at New Mills and scored 125-5 with New Mills 98 all out in their chase.
Hazel Grove were asked to bat by visiting Broadbottom and closed on 130-9 from their 45 overs, Joe Hall making 58 as Liam Dawson took 6-19. Cameron Forsythe then took 5-9 and Oliver Johnson 3-38 as Broadbottom were all out for 108.
Division 4 Compstall lost just three wickets chasing down Whaley Bridge’s total of 73-6.
