HOBBYCRAFT in Stockport has launched its annual Artist of the Year competition to help support local creative talents of all ages.

Wannabe Warhols and promising Picassos can submit their own masterpiece using a creative medium of their choice, whether that is drawing, painting, sketching or sculpting.

There are three categories - Hobbycraft Junior Artist of the Year 2017 (under12s), Hobbycraft Student Artist of the Year 2017 (age 13 and over and in full-time education) and Hobbycraft Artist of the Year 2017 (16 years and over).

The competition is open now and entries must be submitted no later than Thursday, September 14, either at the store in the Peel Centre Retail Park, at blog.hobbycraft.co.uk or via Instagram or Twitter.

Artists should upload an image of their artwork using #ArtForTheWin – naming the category they would like to enter and a short description of the piece.

Six runners-up will receive a £20 Hobbycraft gift card and three winners – one from every category – will each win a £200 Hobbycraft gift card and a trophy, with their artwork displayed on a poster in all stores and a Meet the Artist profile piece featuring on Hobbycraft’s blog.

Store manager Robert Bolland said: “We’re passionate about supporting local artists and want to offer them a platform to showcase and develop their talents.

“This year the competition is open to all ages, with three categories for artists to enter.

“Whether you’re a complete beginner or have been creating for years, we want to see your masterpieces.”
