POLICE in Stockport have issued a warning to residents about a bogus workman operating in the borough.

The man has been reported as targeting elderly people in the area and asking them to pay up front for tree or garden work ‘with no intention of carrying out said work’.

According to a warning published on the GMP Stockport Facebook page, the offender is described as a white male, around 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, around 50 years old with short dark hair, clean shaven and with a long, thin face.

He also spoke with an Irish accent.

In one particular incident, when an elderly woman was targeted, he was wearing a mid-green jacket and matching trousers with a logo on the left chest area.

The logo was described as two letters in gold on a brown background.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
