De­vel­op­ment gets another £17m

AN in­vest­ment of £17m has been ap­proved to start the third phase of the Stock­port Ex­change de­vel­op­ment.

Stock­port coun­cil ex­ec­u­tive has given the green light for fund­ing for 50,000sq ft of of­fice space and re­tail units.

These build­ings, part of the re­de­vel­op­ment of the Grand Cen­tral area near Stock­port sta­tion, will be housed in what is cur­rently the cinema there. This will hap­pen once the new cinema at the Re­drock leisure com­plex, off Bridge­field Street, is open.

Phases one and two at Stock­port Ex­change in­clude 40,000sq ft of of­fice space, a 115-bed­room ho­tel, a su­per­mar­ket, cafe, and pub­lic open space.

Coun­cil­lor Kate But­ler said: “The in­ter­est shown so far means we could have let the phase two premises many times over. This suc­cess has con­trib­uted to a strong busi­ness case for fur­ther in­vest­ment.”
