Traffic delays at roadworks

LENGTHY roadworks are set to cause delays throughout large parts of the day on a busy main road in Stockport.

Stockport council are carrying out three weeks of resurfacing work on Lower Bents Lane, Bredbury, that began on Monday.

The scheme will mean temporary traffic lights are needed throughout this period between 9am and 3pm.

It estimated the work, which will be done by contractors Alliance Partner Tarmac, will be finished by October 2.

If Sunday work is required this will be done between the hours of 8.30am and 6pm.

A council spokesman said: “During the times stated above it will be necessary to restrict traffic movements along Lower Bents Lane using temporary traffic signals.

“As the work progresses the adjoining routes will be restricted through road closure notices prohibiting traffic entering and exiting Lower Bents Lane with signed diversions in operation during working times.

“These measures are in place to minimise disruption to residents and businesses and to allow safe working operations to take place.

“The works are expected to take up to three weeks to complete, weather permitting.”

It is the second time this year Lower Bents Lane, which is a popular route into Stockport and to the M60, has been shut.

The road was also closed throughout February for resurfacing.

But another area of roadworks is set to end after today.

Carriageway resurfacing on George Street, Compstall, on a section of road including the entrance to Etherow Country Park, began on September 6.

Throughout the period it has caused the closure of George Street from 6pm and midnight and temporary traffic lights to be used for some surrounding roads.
