Global success stories
STOCKPORT Business Awards is now in its sixth year, having been set up by Clarke Nicklin Chartered Accountants back in 2012 to recognise and reward business excellence in the town.
The International Business of the Year category is sponsored by Clarke Nicklin Financial Planning and the shortlisted companies this year are APEM, Laser Quantum and Nexperia.
APEM is Europe’s leading independent environmental consultancy specialising in freshwater and marine ecology and aerial surveys.
With headquarters in Stockport, they have over 120 staff in eight offices throughout the UK, as well as offices in Germany and the US.
They have been offering their clients high quality scientific support for almost 30 years and their scientists and technical experts cover a diverse range of specialisms.
A decision six years ago to focus on overseas expansion has seen non-UK turnover rise from only 0.04 per cent of total turnover in 2012 to 8.3pc last year.
With over 25 years of expertise in photonics innovation, Laser Quantum has become a marketleader in the design, supply and support of advanced lasers.
Their continuous wave and ultrafast lasers are highly reliable, exceeding the demands of industry and innovative, allowing researchers to lead in their fields in a wide range of scientific applications. The outstanding achievements of Laser Quantum interna- tionally have been demonstrated by its exceptional export growth which has increased by 57pc over the last three years. Their success was also recognised earlier this year when they won The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise for International Trade.
Nexperia is a dedicated global leader in Discretes, Logic and MOSFETs devices. They’re a new company with a long history, broad experience and a global customer base.
Originally part of Philips, they became a business unit of NXP before becoming an independent company at the beginning of 2017.
Nexperia’s focus remains on efficiency, producing consistently reliable semiconductor components at high vol- ume - 85 billion annually.
After huge recent investment and development, the fabrication facility in Hazel Grove is now the home of their power MOSFETs and with a current capacity of 24,000 wafers per month it continues to build on a semiconductor legacy of more than 30 years at the site.
Winners will be announced at a Black-Tie dinner at Stockport Town Hall on October 12, which 400 of Stockport’s finest will attend.
