Fire crews res­cue car driver trapped in flood

FIRE­FIGHT­ERS res­cued a stricken mo­torist af­ter his car was del­uged by flood­wa­ter.

The emer­gency ser­vices were called to Cross­ley Road in Heaton Chapel, Stock­port, at 3.40pm on Satur­day, when a car be­came stuck in about three feet of wa­ter caused by a burst main un­der­neath a rail­way bridge.

Greater Manch­ester Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice scram­bled two en­gines and its wa­ter in­ci­dent unit to the scene.

The driver was helped away from his car and then handed over to paramedics, who also at­tended the in­ci­dent, to check him over. He was not in­jured. Pic­tures from the scene showed fire­fight­ers help­ing the man to dry ground.

The in­ci­dent was ag­gra­vated by heavy rain­fall dur­ing Satur­day.

The out­look doesn’t look any bet­ter for later this week..
