Stockport firm bags the royal seal of approval!
A FAMILY-RUN business can boast a royal connection after young Prince George set off for his first day at school sporting a bag made by the Stockport firm.
Pictures of the third in line to the throne arriving at Thomas’s Battersea with his dad Prince William have been published around the world – and he was carrying a bag made by William Turner School Wear Accessories, based in Reddish near the town centre.
The bag was etched with the words ‘George Cambridge,’ revealing the name the youngster will be known by during his schooling.
William Turner is a longtime supplier for John Lewis, which supplies Thomas’s Battersea and sales director Andy Smith described seeing the pictures as ‘a really fantastic moment.’
“We are extremely proud and excited to see the bag featured all across the front pages of newspapers and news bulletins,” he said. “The picture has gone global, it’s a really fantastic moment.
“Next year will be our 50-year anniversary, so it’s a great way to mark the occasion.
“We do a range of bags and ties which we make in our factories in the UK, we are a big supporter of the north west and keeping jobs here.”
And the prince is not the firm’s only celebrity client – it also supplied ties for the school attended by footballer Wayne Rooney’s sons and the book bag seen on David and Victoria Beckham’s fashionable daughter Harper.
William Turner has been in business since 1968 and is run by managing director Daniel Turner and production director John Turner.
It employs around 50 people in the Stockport office and warehouse and also works with a number of independent retailers around Greater Manchester.
