Society and club team up again for youngsters

-

THE Vernon Building Society and Stockport County have renewed their partnership for the 2017/18 season to deliver a school outreach programme.

The scheme has seen healthy living presentations delivered to more than 50,000 primary school children across the area since 2010.

The one-hour interactive presentation covers lifestyle choices, bicycle safety and staying safe online.

Delivered by a former teacher, the sessions feature a Stockport County player and even the mascot, Vernon Bear.

At the end of the session each child is given a free Stockport County brochure to take home, along with an offer of free family tickets to a Stockport County home game.

Ian Keeling, director of sales and marketing at the Vernon, said: “As a Stockport organisation, we are keen for our sponsorship of the club to add real value to the local community as well as the club.

“This excellent presentation helps youngsters make the right choices in their lives and, with the offer of free tickets, we expect the scheme to be producing the County ‘diehard’ supporters of the future too.

“Through the scheme, the club, the Vernon, the schools and our local youngsters all benefit.”

Simon Dawson, commercial manager for Stockport County, added: “We are grateful to the Vernon Building Society for their continued support in delivering our schools initiative, which offers a fun way to get important messages to the young children across the town.

“The involvement of our players helps to keep the children interested and the presentation has interaction for all the kids, with the added bonus for them and their family to come to a game at Edgeley Park, and hopefully come back again in the future.”
