Ingram gets well and truly back on track
SPIRITS were high at the Stockport Junior Combined Events Athletics Meeting despite weather which was better suited for ducks, with torrential downpours leaving race numbers in tatters, over 130 hardy athletes turned up at the Woodbank Athletics Stadium to make it a day to remember.
Depending on their age group, junior athletes were expected to complete events including at least one run, a throw and a jump.
The highest points haul of the day went to Lola Unsworth of Stockport Harriers, who scored an impressive 301 points in the U11 Girls category finishing just seven points shy of the U11 Girls championship record set back in 2010. Victories were also recorded by Imogen Hill (Sale Harriers, U9G, 162 pts), Jacob Harwood-Bretnall (unattached, U9B, 199 pts), Josh Garrone (Stockport Harriers, U11B, 292 pts), Jasmine Richardson (Sale Harriers, U13G, 191 pts) and Ethan Pender (Crewe & Nantwich AC, U13B 186 pts).
Older athletes were able to compete in a Pentathlon which comprised of long jump, hurdles, shot put, high jump & 800m. Stand out performances were accomplished by Stockport’s Evie Wild (U15G, 2632 points) and Sam Johnson (U17M, 2397) as well as Amelia Atkinson of Crewe & Nantwich AC (U17G, 2642) who each won at least three events on their way to victory.
There were some great performances in the U17 & U20 open competitions too, undefeated on the day was Emilio Ramirez who won the 100m (12:19s), 200m (24:13s) and shot put (10.34m).
After all the hard work of the day it was time for the Stockport Harriers Youth Development League to celebrate their 2017 successes in becoming Upper and Lower Age Group Division Champions and their
