Time for supporters to hold their nerve on

‘NOBODY said it would be easy’. I’m not sure quite who was the first to use that response, but for sure, and certainly as far as anyone contemplat­ing involvemen­t in running a football club is concerned, that man or woman had his/ her finger right on the button!

Anyone desirous of making even a rudimentar­y study of the recent history of Stockport County would need to approach the subject with caution, and be absolutely sure of themselves when it came to public prognostic­ations on the subject that came afterwards.

To be sure, that history is littered with errors and miscalcula­tions, but equally certain is the fact that circa two maybe three years ago this changed for the better with a regime change behind the scenes at SK3 that brought in, at board level, people who basically were dyed in the wool County fans.

Since then things have changed for the better – the empty slogans, so loved by previous owners, were gone, replaced by a measured approach to getting the club’s finances back on their feet again!

This considered approach, by the current club board, following steady improvemen­ts year by year, finally resulted in the club accounts showing a small profit of £35k, an amazing turn around in such a short time.
