Birthday treats at The Plaza

-

STOCKPORT Plaza will celebrate its 85th birthday with a trip down memory lane.

The theatre, on Mersey Square, marks the milestone on Sunday with a screening of Laurel and Hardy followed by a film feature of Out of the Blue, starring Jessie Matthews and Gene Gerrard.

It opened on October 7 1932 and was saved from closure in 2000, since going from strength to strength.

On Sunday there will be Another Fine Mess Family Fun Day from 2pm, which will be a homage to Laurel and Hardy, followed by their film The Smallest Show on Earth.

It tells the story of a husband and wife who inherit a small screen cinema from a distant relative but are shocked to find the decrepit old building comes with a host of eccentric employees.

Tickets can be bought from the Plaza box office or by calling the booking line on 477 7779.
