Council’s support for bisexuals up in lights
STOCKPORT Town Hall was lit up in pink, purple and blue to celebrate bisexuality.
The colourful display was put on to mark the recent Bi Visibility Day and the bisexual pride flag was also flown from the town hall. It follows on from a council meeting which resolved to support the annual awareness day and tackle discrimination by making sure staff undergo bisexual awareness training.
Councillor Lisa Smart, who proposed the motion at the meeting, said: “I am delighted that my fellow councillors have recognised the importance of this issue and that the council will be visibly demonstrating their support for Bi Visibility Day by lighting the town hall up in pink, blue and purple.
Councillor David Sedgwick, who is the council’s LGBT champion, added: “Nobody should suffer discrimination because of their sexuality and we as a council are committed to tackling prejudice by raising awareness amongst our staff and the community and celebrating sexual diversity.”
