Update on A6 road repairs
AN UPDATE has been given on repair works that have shut a major route in Stockport town centre.
The A6 has been closed in both directions since July 24 while essential repairs to a bridge that runs between Exchange Street and Heaton Lane are done.
It is a 12-week project and Stockport council say work is progressing well and has given no indication of any delays.
Since work began engineers have removed hundreds of tonnes of material to reveal the supporting bridge deck that has been replaced with a concrete slab.
Waterproofing work is almost complete and the coming weeks we will see final construction work.
Contractors are working with utility companies to re-lay gas, water and electricity networks along the bridge before the road is surfaced.
Councillor Kate Butler, executive member for economy and regeneration, commented “We’re working hard to make sure we are able to reopen the A6 as soon as possible.”
