Hatters Half Marathon helps Guardian Account over the 40k line

- IAN BROWN

COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE COLUMN

THE Supporters Cooperative were ‘cock a hoop’ this week as news came in that the Guardian Account had surged on beyond £40k and was now showing a magnificent total of £41475 in the fund.

This is brilliant news, but it does not come about by osmosis or magic, but by concerted hard work, and not a little inspirational thinking along the way, as well as the huge generosity of our members and County supporters in general.

Clearly the largest contributor to the Guardian Account is the Stockport Hatters Half Marathon which again showcased Stockport so successfully just a few short weeks ago. Race Director John Giles was able to confirm a race surplus of just short of £5000 in his recent report to the Cooperative Board, which is truly remarkable.

Des Greene ran the race, as a ‘Guardian Account Hero’ and raised more than £800 as well as clocking a personal best of 2.12 along the way- a fantastic effort.

Another magnificent effort also contributed mightily to the Guardian Account, and it came from the Cooperative’s Vice Chair Dave Marchbank who, defying his 16 stone starting weight, ran the Ellesmere 10K raising almost £2000 in the process.

The Guardian Account has also received much valuable support from the Spinning Top and also from the Cheadle End Cabin on match days almost £3000 coming in via the two sources in the season just gone, and the cabin has already hit takings of £500 in this current season. So keep the donations of County memorabilia coming in .. shirts , hats, scarves etc. We are in the cabin from 1.30 until 2.40 before

County home games.

All the above efforts induce the warmest of glows when looking back on them, and the warmest glow comes from the knowledge of how brilliantly County supporters have stumped up and boosted the Guardian Account with cash donations , and by regularly supporting events staged by ourselves - thank you all!

Finally, and still on the subject of the Guardian Account, you will recall that we intended to continue the consultation process on the eventual focus for the fund, but had to cancel the previous attempt at a further meeting earlier this month.

Happily , on the very day that Nomination Forms went out for our AGM , we successfully re-arranged the Members Meeting for Wednesday 18 October, and it will go ahead from 7.30pm at the Bungalow Club on Hardcastle Road.

John Giles will give a presentation to the meeting and discussion will follow, but the final decision will be taken at the Supporters Cooperative AGM , at the same venue, on Thursday 9 November 2017
