Gannon focuses on cup tie positives
COUNTY boss Jim Gannon was keen to accentuate the positives ahead of his side’s FA Cup replay at Broadhurst Park on Tuesday night as the Express went to print.
A Fourth Qualifying Round clash at either Stafford Rangers or AFC Telford awaited the eventual winner of the scheduled replay, with Gannon taking the opportunity before the local derby to look at the bright side of his team’s performance at Edgeley Park.
“Gary Stopforth was superb, he had great energy and never let them settle, we used to call Tommy Rowe ‘Tommy two men’ but that was definitely Gary on Saturday!
“He constantly picked up at least two of their lads, and made it really difficult for them. So Gary was a plus for us, there were a couple of other lads who were pluses for us – all we have to do now is implement this new away strategy we’ve been working on a bit earlier than we would have done.
“We’re obviously bitterly disappointed with the three goals conceded and the overall second-half; and FC may think the momentum is with them, but it’s game on.
“If we reflect on the overall performance and especially the first half, we can go there with confidence of taking the game to them and progressing to the next round.”
