Seven Miles Out

-

OCTOBER is Black History Month and on Wednesday, October 18, from 7pm, Seven Miles Out is pleased to be partnering with Ebony and Ivory Community Organisation (EAICO) to host a free screening of the Oscar nominated documentary, I Am Not Your Negro.

In June 1979, the writer and civil rights activist James Baldwin embarked on a project to tell the story of America through the lives of three of his murdered friends - Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. He died before it could be completed.

In his documentary film, I Am Not Your Negro, director Raoul Peck imagines the book Baldwin never wrote as a living essay, using his original words voiced by Samuel L Jackson, to create a radical, powerful and poetic work.

This film tells the story of race and injustice in the United States through the eyes of someone who experienced it up close and personal.

Please join us for this powerful documentary (rated 12) and enjoy some Caribbean food provided by Ebony and Ivory.

There is no charge for the screening but voluntary donations to support the work of EAICO are most welcome.

On Friday night, we are delighted to be hosting the EP launch for 20-year-old, talented singer-songwriter Jack B Dawson from Stockport.

Lubo is Jack’s debut EP and combines a variety of musical influences which have shaped his music and lyrics.

Some notable examples include the Arctic Monkeys, Ryan Adams, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Leonard Cohen, John Cooper Clarke, Radiohead and The Smiths.

An English student at Sheffield Hallam University, Jack honed his craft in his bedroom, which he refused to leave for three months until he felt ready to perform live with a set of accomplished songs.

Since then, Jack has played at numerous wellestablished venues across the Greater Manchester region, such as Band On The Wall (with his band Twisted Lullaby), Night And Day Cafe and recently Foodie Friday and Seven Miles Out.

Please join us for a fantastic evening of live music with Jack performing songs from Lubo recorded at Black Dog Studios with Andy Pickering.

Jack will be joined by James Gansler on guitar and James Adolpho on bass.

There will also be fine performances from The Northern Rambler, guitarist Jimmy Nevski and

Cordeliers’ frontman Joe Shaw.

CDs will be on sale during the night, so please bring some extra cash and lend your support.

Saturday night is our monthly retro party night Sound and Vision from 8pm.

This is one of our most popular events, hosted by the amazing Collard family, with The Vinyl Frontier delivering a pre-programmed playlist of classic vinyl from past decades.

If you want a great evening of nostalgia, dancing and great company, this is the night out for you.
