JUNIOR pupils at Cheadle Hulme School enjoyed a wild morning when they were entertained by comedian, actor and author Julian Clary.

Visiting the school to present his latest book in The Bolds series, The Bolds on Holiday, Julian spoke to the pupils about how it is possible to find inspiration in the unlikeliest of places.

As the first special guest to attend the school’s recently refurbished Holden Hall, the pupils heard of Julian’s passion for animals and how he came up with the idea of creating a family of characters from a hairy bunch of hyenas in disguise.

Julian also revealed that some of the characters in his new book were inspired by his own family and his pets – a chicken named Maureen and a dog called Albert.

As well as hearing Julian read chapters from his newest story, the pupils were taken on an artistic journey as the author took suggestions from the audience and drew doodles of their ideas.

The pupils also saw how illustrator David Roberts created the characters for the book.

At the end of the presentation, the pupils posed their questions to Julian in a question and answer session, followed by a signing session and heard how it takes around 12 weeks to create each of The Bolds stories.

Julian’s visit comes after The Bolds was revealed as a World Book Day 2018 title and the author also revealed that there are two more books to come in the series.
