Moor forced to dig deep for Park win

- HEATONMOORCOLTS.31 WINNINGTON PARK .... 14

TERENCE MCGEEHAN IN a truly feisty encounter, Moor Colts finished their preliminary league fixtures with a reasonably comfortable victory although Winnington Park made them work very hard on occasions.

The Heatons lads started very brightly with captain Nick Tenney crossing in the second minute, although his attempt at the extras fell agonisingly short.

Winnington Park felt their way back in and after some pressure were awarded with a penalty try to put them two points in front. But that score had an added pain as Moor were reduced to 13 men, Will Green and Shane Ennis carded.

Despite this Moor stepped up their efforts. With particular leadership shown by Max Savage and Jonno Glanfield seeing this period through and they were awarded themselves 10 minutes before the break with a trademark try from James Molloy, a brilliant run from inside his own half leaving various opponents in his wake.

Asa Bottomley also crossing on the stroke of half time, Tenney converting both majors to leave a healthy lead at 19-7.

The second half was a lot tougher, Winnington Park really pressurising their opponents and as a result, the infamous Moor indiscipline resurfacing, first Tom Eaton and then James Molloy receiving yellows, Molloy later to receive his marching orders after a second yellow later in the half.

But the Cheshire side were unable to punish Moor and Trevor Danson scored a great try after beating four rivals, a mixture of brute strength and no little skill seeing Moor extend their lead.

Winnington Park did pull a converted try back, but Asa Bottomley provided the insurance score, converted by Tenney to add a touch of gloss to the score line, leaving them victors on 31 points to 14.
