Same players are repeating same errors

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

JUST as the last home game – for Blyth Spartans read Kidderminster Harriers – we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by making the same old mistakes.

After the win at Nuneaton I honestly thought we’d learned some game management and got our season back on track but no, the same players are making the same mistakes all over the park that once again cost us dear.

At 3 o’clock the conditions weren’t exactly conducive to free flowing football; a dark gray sky looked to be a metaphor for the game to come.

It looked like every player would spend a part of the game on the floor as he lost his footing but in the first half went we were the better side.

We had numerous chances, goalmouth scrambles, shots from all angles, umpteen corners – but as so often we struggled to find the net when on top.

Kidderminster didn’t offer anything to fear and I thought we’d be able to shake the bogey team status they seem to have over us.

We did score at the end of the half when a long Ian Ormson clearance found Matty Warburton who slipped the ball past the visiting keeper but that was as good as it got.

As the second half got under way it was clear to see which side was more up for it.

We allowed Kidderminster back into the game.

I’ve no idea how the ball found the back of our net for the equaliser, there looked to be no danger as the ball was forced wide but back it came and Ormson was nowhere and neither was his defence!

I don’t know if we can blame the result on a lack of fitness because we still had plenty of chances as the game wore on.

Matty Warburton, Jason Oswell and Ben McKenna all had chances on the break but all three chose to shoot rather than look up and find a man in a better position. The game ended as a contest when, after another defensive mix up, Joe Ironside bagged the winner.

There are statisticians out there who could tell us how many corners we get, how many shots, on or off target; I’d be interested to find out how many completed/ missed passes each player had because if you can’t keep the ball you’re never going to win a game of football.
