Lauren lands Junior KO title

IT was a proud day for the Jones family at Mellor and Townscliff­e Golf Club as junior organiser Ian Jones was able to present his daughter Lauren with the Mellor Junior Singles Knock Out Trophy.

It was also announced that Lauren has been chosen to be Captain of the Cheshire Girls team for 2018.

The Ladies ‘Major’ Trophies were also presented and Jackie Lee was a recipient of three trophies – The Joan Neil Trophy, the Brisbane Trophy and the Fourball KO Trophy with her partner Kate Smith.

Vicky Parry was a double winner taking the Centenary Trophy as well as being the ‘Winner of Winners’.

Other winners were Paul Ryan for Lady Captain’s day, Christine Bartlett the Jane Pask Trophy, Louise and Graham Bartlett the Barbara Haskell Trophy, Carys Baggs the Betty Pollock Stableford and Brenda Gee and Sue Hird with the Foursomes Trophy.

Bramhall ladiesd played a Turkey Stableford and pulling the biggest bird was Carol Mizen with 30 points from Avril Hill 28 and Dianne Symmons, Pat Marriott and Claire Fitzpatric­k, all 27.

In the 9-hole Stableford Stephanie Ward was a clear winner with 12 points, five more than Elizabeth Hitch and Marilyn Kershaw.

Bramall Park ladies played a 14-hole Stableford and some impressive scoring was led in by Pat Hulme with 30 points from Suzanne Souter 29 and Jo Lindon and Judith Wheatley, both 27.

A Three Man Texas Scramble at Reddish Vale was won by P Mumford, G Loughlin and B Fitzsimons on 57.4 from Paul Wheelton, Mike Radcliffe and L Costello 58.0 and A Covell, Ryan Jackson and M Thompson 59.8.

A second Three Man Scramble was led in on 58.7 by J Northrop, T Crampton and A Phillips from Ryan Jackson, B Hammond and L Costello 58.8 and Kevin Seaton, G Eyres and G Lees and P Sloane, G Mitchell and J Zhang, both 59.2.

Hazel Grove’s men played a Three Clubs and a Putter Stableford and top of the shop with 36 points was Anthony Peel from Michael Wilkinson 34, Trevor Davies 33 and David Cooper and Daniel Seabridge, both 32.

Grove’s ladies played a Team competitio­n at the Lady Captain’s Drive-in and romping home with 50 points were D Wilson, M Farrell and I Ghelani from H Hill, Jean Brain and Jackie Dootson 41 and C Jones, J Hare and R Patel 40.

Round Two of the Marple Men’s Winter League was a tight affair with four pairs locked on 38.

Getting the nod in the cpo were D Reddy and M Wilde from S Needham and M Hopwood and G Jones and S Mellish.

Marple ladies played a Team Trios Turkey Trot and winning a cpo on 47 points were E Jones, G Brady and J Healy from K Gould-Martin, S Chapman and P Owens with Jean Oates, G Conway and M Gilbody a point off the pace.

Stockport’s men were in Bogey mode and Scott Grayson led in the bogey beaters on +3 from Will Parker, Alan Gee and Jawad Jassim all +2 and Alan Rogerson, Richard Murison and James Stewart, all +1.

A Seniors 5-club competitio­n at Avro was won at a canter by Ian Anderson with 39 points from Ian White 35 and Kevin Moore and Neil Bryan, both 34.

A Midweek Stableford at Avro had Ken Fairfield out on his own with a fabulous haul of 41 points, seven more than Neil Flood.

Haydock Park Golf Club were great hosts as they provided some great greens for a full Alliance field of 116 players.

As with most courses Haydock had suffered with more heavy rain in the days prior to the competitio­n but all players enjoyed the course and again produced a string of good scores.

Sponsor Dave Sweeney and his Dunscar Golf Club partner Bill Newsome set a hot pace as they posted 46 points in the am am section but were overtaken at the death by the previous week’s winners Paul Traynor and Richard Margrave (Stamford GC) on a cpo.

Next in on 45 points were Haydock Captain Cliff Anderson and Lester Lowe.

Leading the way in the profession­al ranks was reigning Alliance Order of Merit champion Phil Archer (Birchwood GC) who tied with Craig Corrigan in the individual pro section.

They both posted 40 points to finish two clear of Rob Batchelor (Stand), Tim Maxwell (Knutsford), Grant Hamerton (Pike Fold) and Colin Moroney.

Archer made it a double as he found a great amateur partner in Matt Harding (Dunham Forest) to cruise to top spot in the pro am section with 47 points.

It left them four clear of Ben Thompson (Hazel Grove) and Paul Wilson (Wychwood Park) and in a battle between seven pairs on 42 points the cpo went in favour of Mark Pearson and Chris Harding (Prestwich GC).
