Runners join forces to help Teenage Cancer Trust fund

- EMMA CURRY

RUNNERS from a school and a physiotherapy practice have joined forces to take on the Wilmslow Half Marathon next year.

The team from Cheadle Hulme School and north west physiotherapy practice Harris & Ross will take part in the event on March 18, to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The Cheadle Hulme team involves 15 parents, 13 staff, four Old Waconians (alumni), and three students.

Charlotte Sills, one of the team members, said: “We run in honour of Cheadle Hulme students and former students who are battling, or have lost their battles with cancer. The team target is £1,000 but we hope to go above.”

The 35 runners range from complete half marathon beginners to marathon regulars and the team gathered on Monday evening at Harris & Ross’s Wilmslow clinic for a launch event.

They heard guidance on training and recovery from clinic director Jeff Ross and gait analysis from Harris & Ross podiatrist Tom Johnson.

They were joined by Great Britain athlete Jenny Meadows and trainer Trevor Painter, who gave the team an insight into Jenny’s gruelling training schedule and how they could adapt it to their ability levels.

Jeff said: “We are really proud to be part of the squad and look forward to the run and raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust.

“We are pleased to offer our physiotherapy services to the team and hope with our support every team member reaches their goal.”

Jenny said: “As a former Olympian, I encourage people to take up running and this is for such a worthwhile cause.

“It was great to meet the enthusiastic team - myself and Trevor will be continuing to offer advise as the marathon approaches. I might just join in on the day.”
