New arrivals’ big impact for Stockport

- NORTH WEST 1

gave the flanker the opportunity to out race the Carlisle defenders and run in from 40 metres to score under the posts.

McGovern converted to make it 12-8 to Stockport at half time.

Carlisle started the second half strongly and it was only solid Stockport defence that prevented them from getting a try from their significant pressure.

A loose ball was hacked on by Rhodri Morgan and he was only just beaten to the touch down by the Carlisle fullback.

Stockport were able to keep up the pressure and when prop Matt Lawrowitsch made yet another good carry his well timed pass allowed Simon Green to get his second try, McGovern’s conversion made it 19-8 to the visitors.

It was Stockport who dominated with some good passages of play and containing Carlisle when the home side had the ball.

The pressure paid off when Jordan Pearson forced himself over the line for the bonus point try and with McGovern’s third conversion it was 26 -8 and Stockport looked to have secured the win.

However, Carlisle were not finished and it was the home side who had the better of the closing minutes and despite more solid Stockport defence they went over for an unconverted try to make the final scoreline 26-13 to Stockport.

With the second 15 winning at home by 47-22 against Macclesfield third team there was good reason to celebrate as it is many months since both first and second teams won on the same day.

Next week is a home game against Local rivals Altrincham Kersal, kick off at 2.15pm.
