Winning run at an end for top team

- BOWLS JAMIE BRAMLEY

THE slightly disjointed Love Lane winter bowls programme continued on Sunday.

After cancellations due to inclement weather the winter two man team league took centre stage.

The green was playing well with the first part of a crisp cold morning making for varying speeds.

Unbeaten and seemingly unbeatable league leaders Norfolk found themselves under heavy fire against Victorious.

A majestical two man effort from Steve Waterhouse and Graham Southgate saw them defy Chris Barlow and Ben Gloag 21-8.

That result was the first dropped chalks for the runaway league leaders.

Normal service was resumed in the singles with both Barlow and Gloag winning to complete a 70-62 victory.

It was also a good morning for Pinky and The Pea who dropped just a single chalk in an 83-61 win over Viva Conejos.

The singles saw Jamie Bramley record a 31-24 victory from 9-19 down over Michelle Sands.

In the other game Danielle Miller led Keith Robins a merry dance and looked assured of victory. Robins though launched a well timed comeback to crash into the winners enclosure 31-30.

The pairs was all one way traffic as Miller and Bramley sauntered home in quick fashion 21-6. In there second game of the morning Robins and Sands staved off Linda Speight and Bev Beeley 21-13.

That result coupled with another Robins victory enabled Viva Conejos to secure a victory on the league ladder.

Bev Beeley did add a consolation in for her team that also achieved a very respectable points haul.

The two man team continues next Sunday with the aim of concluding matters by the end of January.

The month of February will likely be sprinkled with pairs and singles culminating in the march big event against South Lakes.

Numerous local leagues will start releasing the seasons forthcoming fixtures as the slow build up to 2018 summer bowls hits full steam.
