Stockport County as driving force
and other contributions. But, more important, in my view, was the Cooperative’s role as guardian of supporters rights with particular reference to the future of Edgeley Park.
The Cooperative had already gained Asset of Community Value for Edgeley Park, and to further safeguard the future of EP, we launched the Guardian Account, and it remains a viable possible vehicle to utilise should Edgeley Park’s future be ever under threat again, however unlikely this eventuality might seem just now.
Last Thursday I was still thinking on that one whilst engaged in the Help the Hatters Edgeley Park Clean Up session ahead of County’s game with media darlings Salford City.
I chanced to look around me and it struck me that 40% of those present were in fact Supporters Cooperative members in addition to their roles at Help the Hatters. I knew that to be fairly typical of how this particular cookie crumbled- there was a big element of folks with a conscience, in both organisations, just rolling their sleeves up and doing what needs to be done, be it at the asking of Help the Hatters or whoever- a love of Stockport County being the driving force.
So, two different organisations, approaching issues from a slightly different angle and perspective, but both, in my view, doing valuable work in the best interests of Stockport County and its supporters.
Long may it be so.
