Foodie Friday

- John Barratt

STOCKPORT’S favourite night out, Foodie Friday returns to Stockport Market Place this Friday at 6pm.

Now in its sixth successful year, Foodie Friday has become a regular fixture in the town calendar attracting huge numbers of visitors to the Old Town on the last Friday of every month.

In 2016 Foodie Friday won the accolade of Best Pop Up Event, Club or Project by the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards and it is now the most popular social event in the town centre with sponsorship support from Stockport’s leading software company CDL and Totally Stockport, the Stockport BID company.

The success of Foodie Friday has given a huge boost to the evening economy in Stockport Old Town as visitors regularly pack out local venues Bakers Vaults, Remedy Bar and Brewhouse, The Petersgate Tap and Robinsons Brewery Visitors Centre. There is always a wide range of delicious food choices from all around the world which offers something for everyone and many of the outdoor street food traders are based in Stockport such as I Knead Pizza, ArtiSam, Somtam Street, Oh My Glaze and Em’s Coffee On The Go.

Inside the Market Hall the regular market traders serve up their specialist offers of wine, prosecco, cocktails and craft ales as visitors enjoy the entertainment.

Live music plays an important part in Foodie Friday and the event gives a regular platform to Stockport’s up and coming bands and musicians. This month there are an eclectic range of performances in the Market Hall and Seven Miles Out from singing group A Chorus of Others, acoustic duo Izzy and Lucy, singersongwriter Elmo Ashall-Kelly and up and coming band Dear Caroline. Foodie Friday is much loved by its visitors and has become such an important community event which brings people together from all over the borough and beyond as well as promoting local good causes and showcasing new talent. We hope you can join us for our uniquely Stockport celebration.
