Family’s appeal over missing student
THE sister of a missing student from Stockport has launched an emotional appeal for help to find her.
Jade Rayner has not been seen since Friday morning when she left her home in Marple to catch a bus to Stockport College. The 26-year-old texted her mum several times throughout the day – but it was later that night when she failed to return that alarm bells began to ring.
Her family contacted friends to see if they had seen her and were shocked to discover that Jade had not turned up for college that day, despite telling her mum she had done.
Jade’s younger sister Jemma says her phone has been off since Saturday and her bank accounts have not been touched since the day before.
“It’s completely unlike her,” Jemma said. “She always has her phone on and never leaves home without a charger. The police say her bank account hasn’t been used since Friday and she’s not been on social media either.
“It’s horrible, it’s the not knowing more than anything. She’s never done anything like this before. We’re just going through every scenario. We are really worried about her and just want her home safe.”
Jemma, 24, said that Jade left the family home on Stockport Road at around 10am on Friday. She added: “Mum texted her in the morning checking she’d got there OK and she replied saying yes, then at around 2pm mum texted her again just to see how she was – she’s in her final year so it’s quite stressful.
“She texted back saying she was absolutely fine, but didn’t know what time she’d be home because she had a lot to do. It got to 8pm and she still hadn’t turned up – the college shuts at 6pm – so we rang her friends to see if she was with them and they said she hadn’t been into college that day.
“We tried to call her but her phone just rang out. We thought she may just be at a friend’s and hadn’t heard her phone ringing, but the next day she still hadn’t replied to our messages and her phone was off so we called police.
“The police said they put her as an urgent risk. She had been absolutely fine that morning, her usual happy self. She had just handed in a final project the day before, so she was in a good mood.”
Jemma says that Jade, who studies graphic design, is around 5ft 4ins and has recently dyed her hair dark brown. She has launched an appeal on social media. She said: “Jade, please – if you see this let us know you’re OK, or if you need us call us, we will come and get you.”
