AGRoUP of detectives working on the night of the Arena bombing is organising a charity ball to raise cash for the families of those killed and injured.

when the first reports of a loud bang at the venue started to come through, GMP staff on shift had no idea of what they would end up dealing with.

As terrified concert goers poured out of the Arena on May 22 last year police officers, paramedics and fire crews rushed to the scene with no knowledge of the dangers they would face.

As the night unfolded, it became clear the city had suffered one of the worse atrocities in its history, with 22 people killed and over 100 injured.

In the aftermath of the atrocity, Manchester showed its incredible spirit.

More than £18m has been raised for the we Love Manchester emergency fund, set up to support the families of those killed and injured.

Now four GMP detectives are getting in on the act, organising a charity ball.

Michael Berger, Jed Sudworth, Sam Gaunt and Andy Bailey, who are detectives on the Major Incident Team, say what they experienced will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Michael said: “Immediately afterwards a few of us felt compelled to do something for the victims and their families. we wanted to raise money and we decided on the idea of a ball.”

The GM Bee Glitz and Glamour Ball is due to take place on March 23 at Lancashire County Cricket Club. All the money raised will be donated directly to the we Love Manchester fund.
