Moorend move for top golfer Jamie
ONE of Stockport’s top golfers Jamie Storey is looking forward to a new pathway in golf at Moorend Range.
Jamie said: “I started at Houldsworth as 13 year old, got the bug for the game straight away and wanted to play as much as I could.
“I was junior captain at Houldsworth at the age of 15 and my mum used to drop me off at the club at 7am on her way to work and pick me up on her way home at 5.30.
“I’d spend all day hitting 5-irons down the 11th hole or I’d play 54 holes in a day.
“I joined Stockport Golf Club in 2005 and started working for Mike Peel at 17,
“Mike was great and I can’t thank him enough for how he helped me in my early days. I worked in the shop for nine years in total and it’s given me amazing experiences and introduced me to some amazing people.
“Stockport is great club and I’m very fortunate to have worked there and been a member there.
“I joined the PGA in 2009 and after completing the three year foundation degree I started playing full time in 2013,
“I won the Order of Merit on the Sterling Tour for PGA assistants, and had other plenty of other good performances on North West Pro Tour, EuroPro Tour, Gecko Tour in Spain before entering European Tour School in 2015.
“This was my big chance but unfortunately a lost ball on the 13th of the final round made me miss out by two shots.
“I have been waiting for a coaching position since this event and I’m proud of our new set up at Moorend.
“We’ve got a great facility that’s improving all the time and I can only see it going from strength to strength.”
A Winter Stableford at Avro was won by Karl O’Sullivan with 39 points from Ian White 37, Peter Roles and Peter Walker, both 36.
