Loyal fans urged to get along to Supporters
LISTENING to members over the period of my involvement as a board member of the Stockport County Supporters Cooperative has convinced me of the innate good sense that abounds in the average Stockport County supporter.
There have been many issues, some of greater import and enormity than others, that have afflicted our great Club over the years, particularly over the last decade when we have seen our membership of the Football League disappear in a welter of debt and recrimination.
During this period whilst debt has fluctuated, and Club board room regimes come and go, some faster than others, the one constant has been the County fan base.
Come thick and thin (mainly thin it must be said) they have continued to support the Club in numbers when and where it matters, whether it be by buying a season ticket to provide the Club with much needed funds, or equally vitally by turning up on a Saturday and Tuesday when County are playing home or away.
It has been the same with the Supporters Cooperative – our membership has stood solidly behind the Cooperative board giving it its full backing as we endeavoured to keep the supporters voice heard as we continue to navigate our way back to where we belong in the Football League.
Of course though there will always be disagreement along the way, a ‘democracy’ that operates without encouraging a diversity of opinion is really no democracy at all in my view.
