Big cash boost to help church help youngsters

- EMMA CURRY

THOUSANDS of pounds have been donated to a community church to help young people achieve their potential.

The ROC Café at Brinnington Community Church has received a cash injection of £75,000 from Brinnington Big Local, an initiative that enables residents to make their communities better places to live.

The money will be used to expand the church youth club, introduce a term-time homework club and fund training for a youth worker.

The aim of the funding is to support the education and ambition of the community’s young peo- ple. It was announced at an event at the church, attended by residents from the area, as well as the mayor of Stockport, Coun Linda Holt.

Brinnington Big Local is a 10-year programme which began in 2015 following a £1 million grant from the Big Lottery Fund to allow it to identify and deliver community initiatives.

John Kenny, chairman of Big Local Brinnington, said: “The local people of Brinnington are at the heart of managing the neighbourhood.

“The £75,000 investment will provide support to help young people realise their potential.

“It’s important that we listen and take on board the ideas of local young people who offer a new bright perspective on matters relevant to them and ultimately encourage and inspire them to be a part of the conversation and help influence change.”
