Lifesaving kit will help raise charity funds
ADEFIBRILLATOR will help raise funds for a charity set up in memory of a teenager who died from an undiagnosed condition
The Powerheart G3 defibrillator, donated by Heaton Mersey firm Cardiac Science, was given to 1000 Hearts for Harry, a charity set up by Mario, heart Debbie and Emily Dubois.
The Dubois family are the parents and sister of 17-year-old Harry, who died suddenly from a heart condition four years ago.
The donated device will help them continue to raise money for heartscreening events and to support research into heart conditions.
It will be used as an auction item at the next 1,000 Hearts for Harry fundraising event and marks the start of a partnership between the charity and Cardiac Science in support of screening.
Cardiac Science managing director Shaun Ingram said: “While the focus is often on CPR and defibrillator distribution and education, there is precious little awareness around screening to identify people at risk of a sudden cardiac arrest – especially young people.
“We are keen to build links with Mario and Debbie and see what else we can do in support.”
Mario said: “It’s great to have Shaun and the team on board and we look forward to working with them in 2018.
“There was nothing physically unique or different about Harry. He was a healthy and happy teenage boy, enjoying music, singing and performing – it was his passion.
“There was no indication that he had a severe and rare heart condition, there were simply no warning signs of that awful Saturday night when we lost him.”
