Company hopes to have awards all wrapped up
AFA M I LY- RUN business has been nominated for a regional business award.
Clingfoil, a packaging firm based in Poynton, has been shortlisted for the North West Federation of Small Business ( FSB) Family Business of the Year award.
The business, founded by brothers Mark and Paul Kenyon, began operating from a spare bedroom over 35 years ago.
In 1982, the brothers started selling clingfilm and aluminium foil using their mum’s car for deliveries.
As the popularity for pallet wrapping among the industrial manufacturing and warehouse industry grew, they shifted their focus from distributing film and foil products to offering protective packaging solutions including stretch film, adhesive tape and corrugated cases.
Now the business employs 19 people and last year recorded its highest ever turnover of £ 6 million.
The firm is now one of the region’s largest independent distributors of protective packaging materials and machinery and occupies 20,000 sq ft premises on Poynton Industrial Estate.
Mark Kenyon, managing director, says his team’s hard work is paying off and gaining recognition.
He said: “We’re extremely proud to have made the shortlist for this prestigious award.
“Over the last 35 years, we’ve worked hard to build a successful firm and as anyone with a small business knows, running a company can be tough.
“This nomination is the result of the hard work and dedication of our entire team.”
Simon Edmondson, FSB North West regional chairman, said: “The sheer scale and diversity of the entrants who have taken part in our awards is a real testimony to the vibrancy of the business community here in the north west.
“This is an area full of fantastic small firms and a rich culture of entrepreneurship, so it’ll be great to crown many of them with a trophy in March.”
The awards will be held on March 21 in Blackburn and the winners from each category will go through to the FSB’s UK national business awards, the final of which is in London in May.
