Bramley and Gloag take winter title

- BOWLS JAMIE BRAMLEY

THE warmest Sunday of winter greeted Love Lane’s winter championship pairs.

Over several weeks of qualifying it looked a wide open event with many quality pairs in action.

The green was on the pushy side but improved throughout the day for the players.

In group A Jamie Bramley and Ben Gloag readily qualified with a maximum of two victories 21-9 and 21-11.

Group B provided some superb bowling with John Davies and Dave Stott seeing off Shaun and Rodger Miller in the opener.

It proved to be a bad afternoon for the Father and Son duo as daughter Danielle and partner Heather Bramley then beat them 21-17.

That left a show down for qualification and the girls seemed to be in command leading Davies and Stott 14-12.

Using all there experience though Davies and Stott came out the other side of a real test to reach the semi finals stage.

In Group C Mike Bacon and Gary Hoof won their opening match with minimum fuss.

In a group decider Bacon and Hoof just held off Crown men Darren Sargaent and Danny Howarth 21-19.

That result enabled both pairings to qualify with Sargaent and Howarth making it as best runners up thanks to the 19 they scored.

The semi finals began with Bramley and Gloag continuing to hold a few chalks on Sargaent and Howarth.

The Crown men were slightly unfortunate but eventually fell 21-15 after some really good ends.

The other semi final saw Bacon and Hoof hit top stride and readily brush off Davies and Stott 21-11.

It was a tense and close final with the game all level at 18 across but Gloag and Bramley nudged to the front 20-18.

The final end was poor by the standards of the game but Gloag found the winner giving his pairing the winter championship trophy.

It’s the Jack/John Bramley in aid of cancer research this Sunday and a few places are available.
