Mellor fall in quarters
THE weather took its toll of fixtures in the L&C again this week, but there were some interesting results in the matches that did go ahead.
It was the Quarter Final stage of the Wray Cup where Rochdalians Reserves of Division Three put in a great performance to beat Division Two opposition Newton Res 5-3
In the Whitehead Cup Quarter Finals Milton Res put out higher division opposition in Mellor Thirds from the division above, winning 2-1 and scoring their winner with just ten minutes left in this very close fought contest.
In the other quarter final played on Saturday Village (Manchester) had a somewhat easier game with a 3-0 win over Stoconians Res. Milton will go on to play Village in one of the semi-final ties.
In the first of the Hellawell Shield Semi Finals, AFC Stockport progressed to the final with a 3 – 2 win over Manchester Rovers.
Limited divisional action this due to weather issues and cup fixtures.
In the Premier Division, basement club Signol Athletic lost 1-3 at home to Rochdalians.
Three matches in Division One, where shock result of the day was third place Trafford United 5-1 at home to division leaders Stretfordians. In the other two matches Bury Ams went down 3-1 to Salford Vics and Milton drew 2-2 with Stoconians.
In Division Two Spurley Hey fought out a thrilling 4-4 draw with second placed Swinton
In Division Three, the surprise result of the day was bottom of the division Moston Brook Res handing out a 6-3 defeat to Hollingworth. In the other game Manchester Polonia won 4-1 at Dukinfield Athletic.
Only one match in Division A, where Moorside Rangers came out on top in 4-3 battle with Hargreaves.
