Patrols stepped up after girl followed

-

POLICE patrols have been increased in Stockport after a young girl was followed from school by a ‘suspicious man’.

The child was followed by a stranger in the street in Heaton Moor last Tuesday afternoon.

The 12-year-old was walking home from school along Buckingham Road, when she noticed a man walking behind her.

He did not try to speak to her, but it is understood he followed her for some time, making her feel uneasy.

The man disappeared when the girl knocked on the door of a house.

Officers manning the GMP Heatons and Reddish Facebook page posted details of the incident.

They said: “A suspicious male appears to have followed a 12-year-old girl in the Buckingham Road area of Heaton Moor.

“The behaviour displayed by the male offender is concerning, and has caused significant distress to the victim and her family.

“He’s described as possibly Asian, approximately 30 years old, medium build, average height, black hair, and was wearing blue jeans and a bubble coat.

“Were you in the area yesterday? Did you see anyone fitting this description? We’re unsure of his motives, if any, at this time but we would like to identify him.”

Patrols had been increased and officers will be visible in the area in the coming days to reassure parents and children.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101. Reports can also be made to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
