got the touch down and Liam McGovern converted for 7-0. Warrington then had a good spell but the Stockport defence was good and skipper Kieran Hibbs won a penalty as a Warrington player held on after a tackle.

Stockport produced some good continuity in the Warrington 22 and scrum half Rory Austin, who made several good sniping runs dummied to Pearson ran strongly to get near the line but his offload went to a Warrington player and the visitors cleared.

Stockport kept up the pressure and after a missed penalty attempt and a scoring pass intercepted by Warrington they opted for a 5 metre scrum for a penalty but failed to ground the ball.

Warrington conceded a penalty at the ensuing scrum, which went to touch and Stopkport drove over from the line out and prop Matt Lawrowitsch got the ball down McGovern was on target again to make it 21-7 at half time.

Warrington started the second half well and looked to have scored on the left wing but a great covering tackle by Josh Schofield put the wing into touch.

Warrington collected Stockport’s clearance from the line out and the ball went to their very quick right wing who went on the outside to score a try, converted by the 9 for 21-14. Both teams had good attacking moves but failed to score until Stockport converted a vital penalty on 50 minutes.

The Warrington right wing used his pace again to score from a scrum on half way to make it 24-21. Stockport replied with probably their best try of the season, from a line out in their own 22 good running, support and continuity took them into the visitors 22.

The ball was lost forward but full back Rhodri Mayer collected the clearing kick and his run and breaks by McGovern and Austin resulted in quick ball being sent out to Brotherton on the right for Stockport’s bonus point try.

Warrington continued their contribution to this excellent game with fast passing for another try for their wing and it was back to a 3 point difference at 31-28. Stockport completed this very good match with a try for Jordan Pearson from a well controlled 5 metre scrum just before the final whistle. McGovern completed the conversion for 38-28.

Next week is the rearranged fixture at Headlands Road against runaway leaders Vale of Lune, kick off at 3pm.
