Bowling is back for spring!

EASTER is an extremely busy time in crown green bowls as players awaken from their winter slumber.

Houldswort­h Working Mens Club will host an invitation­al 32 on Good Friday with a mouth watering line up. Not one top player has been excluded from the event and it’s possibly the strongest invitation­al In this area for many years.

Those going to watch will see all big five in action Gary Ellis, GI Wilson, Simon Coupe, Callum Wraight and Greg Smith. In addition to that All England winner Darren Plenderlei­th and two local hopes in the shape of John Davies and Jamie Bramley.

There will be a bookmaker in attendance and hot and cold food on sale throughout the day.

The first time slot of games begins at 10am and it promises to be a superb day of bowling.

There is also action taking place at the Crown Hotel on Good Friday it’s the Harry Rigby Trophy event. Some good local players are competing with the form player of winter Ben Gloag already the bookies favourite to win the event. Gloag took charge of the Jack/John Bramley Memorial on Sunday winning a brilliant final 21-18 against Steve Ridley.

The beaten semi finalists on the day were Ryan Sandham from Wilmslow and Paul Dooley from Congleton. The green was in tremendous shape and in excess of £120 was raised towards Cancer Research UK.

That event concluded the winter programme for another season down at Love Lane. The Woodley Classic also fires into life over the Easter period with the first selection of matches on Easter Sunday itself.
