ACOMPANY will take on work experience students with complex disabilities as part of its pledge to support a Cheadle Hulme charity.

Managed print service provider Midshire already works with the Seashell Trust, which provides secure learning environments for children and young adults with complex disabilities, many of whom have little or no language capabilities.

A supporter of the charity since 2016, Midshire will now take on additional work experience students within its administration department.

Debbie Wilson, operations manager at Midshire, said: “Marian Fahy from the Seashell Trust brings Kieran, who has autism, to work with us every Thursday morning for about an hour.

“We also had a lovely young man back in summer 2017. They’ve been very helpful by filing our outbound documents.”

The Seashell Trust offers additional training for businesses wishing to establish a more diverse workforce.

Seashell Trust fundraiser Wendy Bray sais: “Most companies shy away from working with a person with special needs as they often have preconceived beliefs about how difficult their experience will be.

“Our training programmes are there to eliminate any stigma, prepare businesses for CSR targets and even develop equality and diversity policies.”

Work experience placements in the past have included housekeeping for Hilton Hotels, gardening for National Trust site Tatton park and helping the Wellspring Centre feed the homeless in Stockport.
