STOCKPORT is the unlikely home to Britain’s coolest restaurant, according to American food critic Steve Plotnicki.

Former record label boss Plotnicki ended up in Greater Manchester on a tour of fine dining restaurants, together with The Telegraph article author and food writer Hilary Armstrong - and was impressed by Where The Light Gets In.

“The most polarising restaurant in town” also turned out to be the most memorable, as Plotnicki praised the “fabulous” venue.

Inside, they “happening find a jazz soundtracked scene peopled by Manchester’s young and beautiful”.

While the lack of a wine list is initially concerning, the sommelier’s choice of a 2011 Meursault Poruzots is very well received and seems to win over the pair.

“You have the coolest restaurant in Britain”, Plotnicki said as he left.

Where The Light Gets In has previously been named among the top 10 in the UK, and received a five star review from City Life. The Stockport team reacted with a post on Instagram, where they thanked Armstrong and Plotnicki for the piece and praised the other restaurants that were mentioned in the article.

Plotnicki also visited an eclectic selection of stellar venues: The Raby Hunt in Darlington, Alchemilla Restaurant in Nottingham, Jöro in Sheffield and Moor Hall in Ormskirk.

For a taste of Where The Light Gets In in the city centre, head chef and owner Sam Buckley is helping to collate food festival A Good Feed, taking place at Sadler’s Yard in May.
