THE Wellspring

- BY JONATHAN BILLINGS Chief Executive Officer at The Wellspring

is very proud to be supported by so many local Stockport businesses.

I think its very important for Stockport businesses to have a local impact with their charitable giving and support. How many companies in Stockport have fundraised for larger national charities and organisations that have little impact in Stockport?

I’m not saying that national and global charities are not noble causes that we should not support but I think finding a balance between supporting local charities and the bigger global organisations is best.

2017 was the most productive year in the history of The Wellspring.

We have created almost 15,000 evidenced positive outcomes with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Stockport.

In 2017 we provided 2,432 individual pieces of housing related support and guidance. This would include all housing-related support work, from making housing applications to supporting people into accomm-odation to setting up homelessness prevention plans to prevent people from becoming homeless.

Benefits advice and support has been given 1,761 times. We are very worried about the long-term impact of Universal Credit, which will be fully rolled out in Stockport towards the end of the year. It has already made lots of people homeless in Stockport and made many go into debt.

We are constantly in touch with the Benefits Agency and keeping up to date with all changes to the benefits system. This is vital as our staff need to be giving people the highest quality advice and support.

These and many thousands of other outcomes have been achieved due to the support The Wellspring receives from the community of Stockport.
