Freya and Sophie finish with a flourish
THREE junior Harriers competed at the ‘Over the Bales’ races hosted by Sale Harriers at a sunny Crossford Bridge.
Freya Murdoch took another well-earned first place in the Under 11 girls with Sophie Ellwood hot on her heels to take second.
This capped off a great cross country season for Freya and Sophie with both dominating the primary schools and Manchester cross-country leagues.
Isaac Reed was third in the Under 9 boys.
In the indoor athletics scene, 12 Under 11 athletes from Stockport Harriers competed for Greater Manchester in the Regional Sports hall UK Championship. The Sports hall UK Championship programme is a series of regional events for both the Under 11 age group and Under 13/15 age groups.
The Under 11 girls came second and the Under 11 boys were named regional champions after showcasing their skills in events as diverse as standing long jump, over-under relay, target throw, balance test and high-stepper run.
This competition marks the end of the most successful Sports hall season Stockport Harriers have had since joining the Greater Manchester League, managed by David Jackson, and the athletes have impressed with their commitment, enthusiasm and team spirit.
At Woodbank Park, the Stockport Harriers beginners ‘couch to 5k’ running group run by coach Alexis Dinsmoor, held its final session last week with the entire group successfully completing a 30 minute non-stop run.
The course has been a fantastic success and great introduction to running.
The next beginners’ course is anticipated to start in June 2018 and is highly recommended for anyone looking to start a new challenge.
