Purchasing Edgeley Park stakes is priority

I CAUGHT up with Supporters Cooperativ­e Chair- Peter Towey this week, and asked him to give County Supporters an overview of the Cooperativ­e’s position regarding the Guardian Account.

Peter’s response is faithfully reproduced below.

“As most fans will be aware, the Guardian Account was set up by the Supporters’ Co-operative to help guarantee the long term sustainabi­lity of Stockport County Football Club by obtaining an asset that could be used by the club, and give the fans a stake in County.

“This is the basis on which we have sought to raise money and have now got £43,750 in the fund.

“Not a penny of this fund can be spent without the permission of the membership.

“At the Co-op AGM, a vote was taken by our membership to make acquiring a stake in the ownership of Edgeley Park as the primary focus for the Guardian Account.

“The idea was to gain further equity stakes in our ground to help guarantee the security of tenure for the club at our spiritual home.

“By providing this focus we hoped to increase the rate at which we could attract contributi­ons.

“Whether this is possible or not will depend upon a number of factors, particular­ly the agreement of the Club and the Council, and how they view the proposal. It is clear that we need the agreement of club Directors to proceed with this and will continue in dialogue with them to clarify the position.
