Gaffer is steering clear of targets

-

THE late victory at Bradford, coupled with The Hatters’ play-off rivals all dropping points over the Easter Weekend, saw County move into sixth place with a three point cushion over the sides trailing outside of the play-off positions, with the chance to move into fifth place presenting itself in the rescheduled clash with The Lambs.

But, after missing out on a play-off berth last campaign by a solitary goal on the final day of the 2016/17 season, Gannon was quick to play down any talk of a specific target in mind to make certain of a place in the end-ofseason lottery.

“I don’t think it’s a question of a certain points tally. This league has shown, as recently as last season, that you can have a certain tally in mind and it ends up not being enough. Bradford was a huge result when you look at the results around us, and this gives us a great opportunity to make it five wins in a row and really keep pushing ourselves right into the mix,” the former Northwich boss said.

“We’re getting to that business end of the season where you’ll see scenes like Bradford, with late winners to keep seasons alive and fans getting caught up in the drama and emotion. We had a false dawn at Bradford last season with a late winner which ended up coming to nothing as we missed out on the final day, so we just need to all keep our feet on the ground, keep working hard and keep preparing professionally, and hope to see those kind of scenes on the final day, as that’ll mean we’ve made it into those play-off fixtures.”
